Here are two very small enamels on copper. They have been enamelled, stoned back, sketched onto with pencil, enamelled some more and then had flecks of gold leaf and a layer of flux fired on. I have then carefully sanded them back to create a matte and eroded look. I have always been fascinated by the idea that our memories fade and alter or perhaps even become enhanced to become those 'golden moments'. I'm not sure where these experiments will take me but will keep these two pieces on my work table for a while and think about it some more. <br /><br /><center><a href='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4MkQ7kYQ4y5ofzGUK0iEcmDWGI8PaBe5S1xc1WyvcLVg24gJuZuFrdI1ED2hB9I0tfhD7EP0T7DI7eiYksTqR8jIvw5cGT2zhCj8N9PMqhUW770eSCTP5jLhTPYkOMpgsa02f9LSKRpPn/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4MkQ7kYQ4y5ofzGUK0iEcmDWGI8PaBe5S1xc1WyvcLVg24gJuZuFrdI1ED2hB9I0tfhD7EP0T7DI7eiYksTqR8jIvw5cGT2zhCj8N9PMqhUW770eSCTP5jLhTPYkOMpgsa02f9LSKRpPn/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='280' height='175' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad<br />Lynne Glazzardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07964502327018956205noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020445824223262175.post-9201566534703850832014-11-26T20:16:00.001+00:002014-11-26T20:16:58.067+00:00Stone settings and a bit of practice At this point in the year I take a bit of time to learn some new techniques or practice a particular skill. I have decided to do some stone setting. I have quite a few interesting cabochons stashed away in a box and, although I used to set my enamels in bezel settings it is some years since I did this. Today I have made myself a ring using a very rounded rutilated Quartz cabochon that has been in my box of bits for many years. I oxidised it very heavily and this reflects in the inclusions and makes them appear more of a contrast with the rest of the stone even though they are actually quite pale.<br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-nu5MUol0u9U/VHY1N0fM5GI/AAAAAAAADi0/3qLCuKWBcAk/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-nu5MUol0u9U/VHY1N0fM5GI/AAAAAAAADi0/3qLCuKWBcAk/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='280' height='229' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad<br /><p class='blogpress_location'>Location:<a href='http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Whitby,%20North%20Yorkshire&z=10'>Whitby, North Yorkshire</a></p>Lynne Glazzardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07964502327018956205noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020445824223262175.post-39728344461494381282014-09-24T02:49:00.001+01:002014-09-24T02:49:25.225+01:00Preparing for an exhibitionAt the moment I am preparing for an exhibition of work by selected members of the Guild of Enamellers. I also received a beautiful catalogue of all the pieces in that exhibition and it is full of very inspiring work. I think I need to get practicing and hope that I can produce a suitable piece again in two years time.<br /><br /><center><a href='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilIGayc0hC5KablCWQedL0Jm_DWRgczrc0VkJ9WKZsbyJvcRanSAI6tfIqnOCodSg_ZK9QWAjbdJB-wZrI0RepgfSIHOaOpuTVl6DrA5crBJWRx8RmYGdskKV_tXPXFhAaX5xNWlJzGxns/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilIGayc0hC5KablCWQedL0Jm_DWRgczrc0VkJ9WKZsbyJvcRanSAI6tfIqnOCodSg_ZK9QWAjbdJB-wZrI0RepgfSIHOaOpuTVl6DrA5crBJWRx8RmYGdskKV_tXPXFhAaX5xNWlJzGxns/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='280' height='208' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-2R3FRpsx754/U9_xhwIRlHI/AAAAAAAADfA/6YAcIC7I0BE/s288/iphone_photo.jpg'><img src='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-2R3FRpsx754/U9_xhwIRlHI/AAAAAAAADfA/6YAcIC7I0BE/s288/iphone_photo.jpg' border='0' width='216' height='280' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad<br />Lynne Glazzardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07964502327018956205noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020445824223262175.post-57893630155739327982014-08-04T07:05:00.001+01:002014-08-04T07:05:11.526+01:00Exhibition in YorkToday I will be going over to York to set up for a joint exhibition with Stef Mitchell and Kimberli Werner. This was followed by a collection of pieces of enamelled jewellery developed with the assistance of an Arts Council grant. I have decided that it is time to return to this theme, been thinking about it for some time and am excited by the new possibilities as my work has definitely changed over the intervening period.<br />
<br />
Here is one of the original pieces, enamel on copper and probably dating from around 2002.<br />

Using finely ground enamel pigments you will be shown how to prepare them for your palette and how to apply them to your prepared base. Enamel painting is suitable for representing a range of imagery from representational portraits to abstract designs. This class would be most suitable for those who already have a reasonable level of ability in either oil or watercolour painting and some enamelling experience.</span></span></div><br /><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></span><span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"></span></span></div><br /><span style="text-align: left;"><br /><div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /></div><br /><div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /></div><br /><div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /></div><br /><div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /></div><br /></span><br /><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span></div><br /><span style="text-align: left;"></span><br /><div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><br /><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span><br /><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span></div><br /><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="text-align: left;"></span></span><br /><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></span></div><br /><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span><span style="text-align: left;"></span></span><br /><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="text-align: left;">Saturday 27th April 2013 Landscape into Enamel with Tilly Wilkinson </span></span></div><br /><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span><span style="text-align: left;"></span></span><br /><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="text-align: left;">£150 per person plus cost of copper available to purchase on the day.</span></span></div><br /><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span><span style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br />Using a range of enamel techniques produce a landscape based wall panel from your own images.</div><br /></span><span style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br />You will incorporate a range of techniques including sifting, scrafitto and stencilling to produce your own personal response to a landscape that you love. When I view my work it is obvious that I have constantly used flowers as a source of inspiration over the years.<br />

Find me at <a href="http://www.metal-clay.com"></a>www.metal-clay.com You can subscribe and comment and I will be using that website blog style, as I like the more active nature of a blog rather than the traditional static website.<br />

I will continue to post here too - but will keep them different from each other <br />

The workshop was called 'Mary's shoes' referring to an exhibition about the Weatherill family of artists currently showing at the <a href="http://www.yorkshiresfavourites.org/venues/pannett-art-gallery.html">Pannett Art Gallery</a>, Whitby.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdqHVIMuoIFARaLKeq390K9CENe8z6vWpgnfY16sXNgcX7zFRWndW7z-MMRRPQ6AUsBjbDv8N2ZJ3wDcZGz9sZIsKpCaq1d5FHgqPfcjdBLuMJIcyZy4jprrQW6OQ-09qQ13telngBUO3r/s1600/4+Marys+shoes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdqHVIMuoIFARaLKeq390K9CENe8z6vWpgnfY16sXNgcX7zFRWndW7z-MMRRPQ6AUsBjbDv8N2ZJ3wDcZGz9sZIsKpCaq1d5FHgqPfcjdBLuMJIcyZy4jprrQW6OQ-09qQ13telngBUO3r/s320/4+Marys+shoes.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Serena demonstrated to the class,showing us her methods for constructing beautiful little paper shoes and we then went on to make our own versions, choosing from the patterns and papers that she had provided. At the end of the day most of us had made two or three little shoes, each of which has its own imagined story. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWFMu9SEubNjXy-QYKtOoBi4SK939F1KhyphenhyphenwD8Qx1T-Rocs0GGTx4kaCoyLMkORvu9Rg6_xYNLZiHUXSXRK__JawmTJOp4e-2YstWpF3ndbWAo4Knak_wNouXxUKDi4MPzKVn1YNO8gAM1r/s1600/1+Marys+shoes+aa.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWFMu9SEubNjXy-QYKtOoBi4SK939F1KhyphenhyphenwD8Qx1T-Rocs0GGTx4kaCoyLMkORvu9Rg6_xYNLZiHUXSXRK__JawmTJOp4e-2YstWpF3ndbWAo4Knak_wNouXxUKDi4MPzKVn1YNO8gAM1r/s320/1+Marys+shoes+aa.jpg" width="224" /></a></div>These are the shoes made by the whole group. As you can see they are very individual and beautifully decorated (and that most people in the group actually made a pair of shoes).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq6lhTdfoRdahdmw3YKiKPna5JwMxGwpsyjvSXmuszpkuBKq52C730C3nbdH2LKYZBnVqttJQoc2Dqv8y73qW5dg05X11c-5UqhOIcJCdHYrdttu92rVQBCGsUWGxfFzrjOdtPm95J-4yP/s1600/2+Marys+shoes+mine.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq6lhTdfoRdahdmw3YKiKPna5JwMxGwpsyjvSXmuszpkuBKq52C730C3nbdH2LKYZBnVqttJQoc2Dqv8y73qW5dg05X11c-5UqhOIcJCdHYrdttu92rVQBCGsUWGxfFzrjOdtPm95J-4yP/s320/2+Marys+shoes+mine.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Here are my three shoes. I began with a fairly small example and made them progressively smaller. This was a fabulous day and I would like to do this again sometime. I wish I had made labels and a story for each of them, they do really lend themselves to story telling!<br />
<br />
There will be more workshops at the Pannett through August. On the 18th, 23rd, 25th, 30th August and 1st September are a series of drama workshops for children. They are running from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and will be exploring and imagining life in Whitby for the people shown in the Weatherill paintings.<br />
<br />
On Friday 26th August from 10am until 4.30pm there will be a drop-in workshop looking at Womens' work in Whitby during the 1800-1900s. You can learn about traditional Ganseys and participate in rag rugging.<br />
<br />
Booking for any of the workshops is essential - telephone 01947 602051<br />

Last week I ran a couple of interesting workshops in my own studio; the first for a couple who spent the day making their wedding rings In sterling silver and gold using traditional techniques and the second for a couple who made some beautiful pieces in their first foray into art clay silver. I have a couple of commissions half done on the bench and am making samples for a 1960s inspired rings class that I will be running at the Castle Museum in York on the 1st October. I will try and post some pictures of them in the next few days!Lynne Glazzardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07964502327018956205noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020445824223262175.post-22015860333979456682011-06-25T19:16:00.000+01:002011-06-25T19:16:24.517+01:00Summertime inspirations<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7NDWsSJ_SCs/TgYj7s0AItI/AAAAAAAACMc/iSeX8aHMiDw/s1600/01+seedheads+and+ladybird+June.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7NDWsSJ_SCs/TgYj7s0AItI/AAAAAAAACMc/iSeX8aHMiDw/s320/01+seedheads+and+ladybird+June.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />

The very talented metal clay artist Lesley Messam has been up to North Yorkshire (together of course with her lovely husband Keith). We were a little sad as Joy Funnell was originally going to come as well, but couldn't because of other commitments. She did very kindly email some notes on plique a jour enamel to help us on our way. On Friday we had a day out in Whitby but Saturday and Sunday were spent in studio, teaching each other all kinds of things and laughing and experimenting along the way.<br />
<br />
I have a large stone set and ready to attach to my partly made ring. The main achievement for me was actually doing some plique a jour enamel. I did make two pairs of earrings using this technique way back in 1999 but have not attempted it since.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Bird a week, plique a jour earrings</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pvKhYQJ2y0g/Tdld3-qh0MI/AAAAAAAACL4/k5JkG-xnju4/s1600/May+2011+006+plique+a+jour+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pvKhYQJ2y0g/Tdld3-qh0MI/AAAAAAAACL4/k5JkG-xnju4/s320/May+2011+006+plique+a+jour+2.jpg" width="195" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is my second attempt. I got a little confused about which colour went into which cell so a couple of the cells have more than one colour in them. I have really enjoyed the challenge of doing these and will think about designing something for plique a jour again soon</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

It does have all the elements of something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue together with the forget me not that are her own favourite flowers.</div>Lynne Glazzardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07964502327018956205noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020445824223262175.post-89752398702350869302011-04-28T21:38:00.001+01:002011-04-28T21:38:28.086+01:00A ring in SeattleI am really pleased that one of the rings I made last year has been selected for an exhibition RAD, a Ring a Day for 365 days at the Punch Gallery in Seattle. The exhibition runs from Thursday May 5 to Sun May 29, 2011 and runs in conjunction with the conference of the Society of North American Goldsmiths (my ring is a plastic one, carved faux bone and engraved then coloured using alcohol inks).<br /><br /><br /><br />- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone<br /><br />Lynne Glazzardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07964502327018956205noreply@blogger.com0
